Metal type? Is it importantimportant on a magnetic stirrer?

Text:

The guide saysfor the most recent Magnetic Stirrer (DIY) says that the metal for the strip that you glue the magnets to should(which goes on top of the hard board rotor)should be cut from "Bulk Strip Metal". So im just curious, what kind of metal is this exactly? and is it important? can you use brass? Is it the same as sheet metal?... etc... thank you for any responses
